Data Analysis & Controls Implementation - Trader Mandates, Regulatory Compliance – Global Bank

Cross-border permits framework require a permit to be in place prior to soliciting or executing transactions with client counterparties. Permits feature within Trader Mandates and therefore require a control to ensure adherence. This control was missing from our client’s process and had legacy risk due to an inability to design a control that would mitigate or identify breaches.

Permit and trade/sales person information are data points needed to implement the suite of cross border controls.

Broadgate Partners were hired to deliver a control as well as operating it tactically, until a strategic solution could be designed, whilst supporting the identification of key data points in upstream systems such as Bloomberg that will be used to identify the right solution

  • Provided data support for the overhaul of the Trader Mandate framework by creating new structures for book access, dealing authorities and product mandates. The scope involved implementation of role-based assignment profiles, new trader controls and their linkage to the booking model
  • Designed and implemented attributes for key elements of the framework
  • Systematically mapped traders’ book access to dealing authorities and permitted products
  • Modelled data, defined metrics, and connected databases to optimise trading activity supervision
  • Planned, developed, and released rule algorithms for tactical trading control
  • Structured and consolidated trade records aligning data taxonomies from multiple source systems
  • Streamlined tasks and interlinked trading activity with trader-user databases to detect exceptions (e.g., rules to identify trades executed without required permissions or certifications (FCA, 15a-6))
  • Ratified and deployed trader controls, enabling recurring reconciliation of transactional data with trader mandates, individual attestations and permitted product
  • Liaised with our client’s IT division to fully operationalise the remodelled framework (e.g., cross-border permits, book access & ownership, profit & loss sign-off, geographical remit, cross-entity permits)
  • Controls implemented: counterparty type, cross-entity trades, cross border trades, out of hours trades
  • Tools used: MS SSMS (SQL), DSS Dataiku, Qlik Sense, MS Excel, SDM Prod Console
